FAQs
Thanks for stopping by. I’m Peter, founder of North East Spirit, and I’ve put together this FAQ section to help you get the most out of your experience exploring Durham and the North East of England.
What is North East Spirit?
North East Spirit is my personal venture offering guided walking tours in Durham and across the North East of England. I specialise in small-group and bespoke tours that explore the rich history, culture, and character of this incredible region. Every tour is designed to be engaging, informative, and full of heart.
Which areas do you cover?
I offer walking tours in Durham City, Newcastle, Sunderland, and other parts of County Durham and Northumberland. Check my list of current tours available to book, or if you would like to discuss a bespoke private tour please get in touch
Are your tours suitable for visitors and locals?
Absolutely! My tours are perfect for curious visitors wanting to discover the North East of England, and for locals who want to see their home through fresh eyes. I tailor each experience to suit the group, so everyone gets something meaningful out of it.
Do you offer private or bespoke tours?
Yes, I specialise in bespoke walking tours. If you’re looking for a private tour in Durham or a custom experience anywhere in the North East, I’ll work with you to create something unique and memorable. Just get in touch to discuss your ideas.
How long is each tour?
Most walking tours last between 1.5 to 2 hours unless otherwise stated in the tour listing. Bespoke tours can be longer or shorter depending on what you would like to do.
What should I bring on a walking tour?
I recommend wearing comfortable shoes suitable for walking and dressing for the weather – layers and a waterproof jacket are always a good idea in the North East! A bottle of water and a sense of curiosity will also go a long way. I’ll provide everything else you need to enjoy the experience.
Are your tours family-friendly?
Yes! My tours are suitable for all ages. I adapt the storytelling and pace to suit the group, so families with children are very welcome.
Can you accommodate accessibility needs?
As a trustee of a sight and hearing loss charity, I have a growing understanding of accessibility needs and always aim to make my tours as inclusive as possible. If you or someone in your group has specific requirements, please let me know in advance so I can tailor the experience accordingly.
Please note: due to the nature of Durham’s medieval streets and steps, the
Durham City tour is not wheelchair accessible.
How do I book a tour?
You can book directly through my website which will always be the cheapest way to book. I recommend booking in advance, especially during weekends and holidays, as spaces are limited to keep the experience personal and high-quality.
